How I Discovered My Love for Green Tea and Started Feeling More Like Myself Again

Cup of green teaWELLNESS

Hello everyone! I wanted to share something with you all today — my journey of discovering green tea and how it's become such a lovely part of my daily routine. As a busy mum from Salford, Greater Manchester, I'm always looking for small things that help me feel a bit more balanced and energised throughout the day.

Like many of us here in Britain, I grew up absolutely devoted to my builder's tea. There's nothing quite like a proper cuppa, is there? I used to have at least five cups a day, always with milk and sugar, and I'd be lying if I said I didn't enjoy dunking a biscuit or two in there as well!

Making Small Changes

A couple of years ago, I started thinking about making some small positive changes in my life. Nothing drastic — just little adjustments here and there. A friend of mine mentioned she'd been drinking green tea and really enjoyed it, so I thought I'd give it a go.

I'll be completely honest — I wasn't convinced at first. I'd tried it years ago and wasn't keen on the taste at all. But I decided to approach it with an open mind this time.

The first cup was... interesting. It certainly wasn't the comforting milky tea I was used to! But I persevered, and after a few days, I actually started to quite like it. There's something refreshing about it, especially in the morning.

What I've Noticed

Now, I'm not making any grand claims here. Everyone's different, and what works for one person might not work for another. But I wanted to share what I've personally experienced since making green tea a regular part of my day:

  • I feel more alert in the mornings without feeling jittery
  • I've found it helps me drink more fluids throughout the day
  • It's become a lovely little ritual — a moment of calm in a busy day
  • I've cut back on sugary drinks, which feels like a positive step
  • I genuinely enjoy the taste now (never thought I'd say that!)

My Daily Routine

These days, I usually have a cup of green tea first thing in the morning while I'm getting the kids ready for school. There's something quite peaceful about those few quiet moments with a warm cup in my hands before the chaos of the day begins!

I'll often have another cup mid-morning at work, and sometimes one in the afternoon. I've found that having it plain works best for me, though some people like to add a slice of lemon or a bit of honey.

I still enjoy the occasional traditional cuppa, mind you — I haven't completely abandoned my British roots! But green tea has definitely become my go-to drink most of the time.

What I've Learned

Through my own reading and conversations with friends, I've learned that green tea has been enjoyed for thousands of years in many cultures around the world. It contains antioxidants and has been part of traditional wellness practices in Asia for centuries.

Of course, I'm not a nutritionist or a doctor — I'm just a mum sharing my personal experience! If you're curious about making changes to your diet or lifestyle, it's always worth having a chat with a healthcare professional.

Trying It Yourself

If you're thinking about giving green tea a try, here are a few things I wish I'd known when I started:

  • Don't use boiling water — let it cool for a minute or two first, as this can make the tea taste less bitter
  • Start with just one cup a day and see how you get on
  • There are lots of different varieties, so if you don't like one, try another
  • Give it a proper chance — it took me about a week to really start enjoying it

That's my little story about discovering green tea. It's nothing revolutionary, just a small change that's brought a bit of positivity into my daily routine. Sometimes it's the little things, isn't it?

Thanks for reading, and feel free to share your own experiences in the comments below. I'd love to hear from other tea lovers out there!
